RV Life: Zion National Park – additional panoramas & photos

Zion National Park – RV Travel… a rare wintertime visit…

I decided to add to my earlier Zion National Park post dated March 6, 2025 post. There were just too many photos and panoramas to share in the first post! Isaac and I ultimately made three visits to Zion in February. We were able to do these explorations as February 2025 was unusually mild and snow free. A really poor combination for a couple of ski instructors! Hence… we “hit the road” and started exploring. Incidentally, I share a bit more about Isaac and our travels in my recent “On The Road (Again)” post.

Recall that Zion National Park is actually “two parks in one.” Kolob Canyon is nearly an hour from the South Entrance of Zion Canyon, yet both are part of Zion National Park. Maps and much more about Zion and RV life related to it can be found HERE. We spent one day exploring Kolob Canyon, one in Zion Canyon and one driving through what I refer to as “east Zion”, in other words towards Mount Carmel and Bryce Canyon. Each visit enabled us to explore different terrain and truly connect with the region.

Isaac took some great photos

In this post, I’d like to share some additional panoramas and some of Isaac’s photos. I believe he has a very good eye and you may agree as well. Either way, I welcome your thoughts and insights!

Signs of Winter

Even in a mild, relatively snowless winter there were signs as we explored. One of the most visible was the presence of ice – which Isaac has a far better eye for than I do. Judge for yourself in the following images…

An ice covered wall along the Riverside walk – all you have to do is LOOK UP!

And a slide show to highlight some additional inspiring images…

When I expressed earlier I believe Isaac has a good eye, did I overstate? (I welcome your feedback below in the comments section.)

More about Zion National Park – Tips from an RV Traveler

When we visited Zion National Park in February, as an RV traveler, one thing I made note of is MOST RV parks near the National Park are closed. It’s kind of ironic as once they open for the Spring and Summer season, they are either PACKED or FULLY BOOKED, usually months in advance.

Solutions? I offer some HERE in my “main” Zion post. If you do wish to visit off-season (late-autumn, winter, early-spring), I recommend Parowan (Painted Hills RV Resort), Cedar City, or Hurricane. Each location offers full hookup RV camping that is open year-round.

Dry (Primitive) Camping In the Region

For those who are properly equipped, dry camping is typically UNcrowded and INexpensive. My “go to” resource to explore primitive camping options is Allstays. It isn’t free, and its best viewed on a laptop or iPad (or desktop), but it IS comprehensive and informative.

You’ll be looking for Federal lands (NFS, BLM, Bureau of Reclamation) typically. These are the green symbols found within Allstays. You can see a map depicting these symbols below. Incidentally, brown symbols in this image are National Parks, and black symbols are privately owned parks.

When I click on a symbol, I appreciate the information provided within Allstays. You can access opening and closing dates for the campground (if it’s not year-round), cost information, contact information, max. size campers it can accomodate and more.

Recent Travels…

Goldfield, Nevada

I’m currently in Goldfield, Nevada (April 27, 2025) and it SNOWED this morning! Snow (and for that matter ANY precipitation) is RARE in this region, yet, it started snowing at about 11pm last evening and continued till past 9am. I even took a walk in it – something I’ve done during the FIRST snow of the season for years, but since its been a few weeks (really, ONLY a few weeks) since it snowed where I was (April 3rd in Parowan perhaps?), it was novel enough to warrant a walk outside!

While in Goldfield, I toured the Goldfield Hotel which last served guests in the 1940’s. I also toured Goldfield High School, last utilized about 75 years ago! Both were built in 1908. I will have video, photos and STORIES about each soon! There’s much more about Goldfield I will share from this visit.

Echo Canyon and Cathedral Gorge

I plan to share my most recent hiking and camping experiences that I shared with Isaac while in this desolate region. Also a living ghost town I visited (and as usual a bit more!)

Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge

Three (free) nights camping LAKESIDE in this spectacular desert oasis. And an opportunity to paddle – sometimes twice daily!

RV Industry News – coming soon…

  • A class action lawsuit regarding a major 5th wheel manufacturer. NOT “just the facts”, but my take and insights regarding what is happening – and as an RV Concierge (I offer a RV Buying and Selling Service) my suggestions for how to best navigate the current minefield you WILL encounter when purchasing a recreational vehicle (of ANY type.)
  • A truly sad story of a buyer who made “every mistake possible” and the situation he found himself in when he wanted to sell his camper. Shared so that we may all learn from his mistakes.
  • New RV Sales data (and book values) and my current take on the industry. New book values are due soon. Along with that data, I will share some recent tales of what to expect if you’re considering buying OR selling an RV.
