Back Forty Farms – A visit to a family farm that produces clean and natural food

Ideal for RV Travelers who wish to store quality food in their campers

Allow me to share a treasure I encountered in my travels. While I was searching for eggs during the “great egg shortage” a few months back, I ran across Back Forty Farms. As I explored their website, I discovered they are an “all natural” farm with proprietors who CARE about what they do and what they produce. As I learned more about the owners, Ron and Lisa Kern along with what they do and how they do it, I placed an order for freeze dried eggs – with a 20 year shelf life!

After speaking with Ron, my curiosity regarding his farm was piqued! I decided to visit their farm to meet them and learn more about what they do and how they do it. At the time I was in Southern Nevada, heading north, so I arranged my route to facilitate a visit.

Back Forty Farms – Serene and Welcoming

It was a warm, sunny day in May. I visited with Ron and Lisa for much of the afternoon. As I toured their farm and heard their story, I realized Back Forty Farms can prove to be a valuable and frequent resource for you and I as RV travelers. Their food products are nutritious, priced competitively, grown pesticide free, and packaged well for travelers. AND… they ship!

Back Forty Farms is located in a rural portion of the Treasure Valley in Southern Idaho. They are literally minutes from Boise and the I-84 corridor. My visit took place in early May 2025. I’m just now catching up on “old” adventures, travels and stories!

About back Forty Farms

Back Forty Farms is a family owned “membership only” PMA (Private Ministerial Association) farm. There is no fee for membership and you’ll discover as you watch the videos below, why they structured their farm as they have. The Kerns own 42 acres of land and each feature on their land has value and purpose.

On site, they have numerous types of animals (who all seem to be quite happy – see the videos!) Ron and Lisa also tend to various crops, most of which are available to you and I through their online store.

Back Forty Farms – a great source of nutrition whether you purchase online OR visit their farm in Idaho

The farm is Ron and Lisa’s passion as well primary source of income. Back Forty Farms produces (and ships) high quality products, including freeze dried eggs, organic dandelion extract, freeze dried yellow squash, zucchini, Jalapenos, cauliflower, cheese shreds soup starter, and even free range chicken parts (these may need to be picket up on site in Nampa, Id), along with much more!

They offer these through their online store to its members. For those who visit their farm, they also offer onsite dinners and tours and fresh food. The online store contains a variety of meats, produce and more – all produced under the healthy and natural conditions that exist on their 42 acre farm.

The video below introduces you to Ron and Lisa. I don’t do many interviews, so, I was holding my phone. I apologize in advance for any shakiness or audio issues (but it DID turn out pretty good!) In this first segment, you’ll gain a sense of who they are, what they do, their mission and the quality of the food products they produce.

Back Forty Farms PMA – Private Ministerial Association

Back Forty Farms PMA was created in January 2025 and their membership base has grown rapidly ever since. Their on site farm to table dinners tend to sell out and are offered regularly. I was unable to attend one before leaving the Boise region, however, I found their tour to be most enlightening and have made several purchases via the online store as a member. Again, there is no fee to becoming a member.

Ron’s WHY…

Every business owner has a “why.” As you listen to Ron in the video below, you’ll see why Back Forty Farms is such a good fit for he and Lisa.

Final Thoughts…

Thanks for reading and allowing me to share these videos. If you’re motivated to do so, please leave a comment below and/or consider clicking on the YouTube videos above. If you could, give each a thumbs up, leave a comment, and share. It helps to improve the video’s “visibility” as YouTube will recommend it to others. THANK YOU!

As we enter winter, I’m “hibernating” in Idaho’s Silver Valley. If it ever stops raining, I’ll be skiing (alot) this winter. This region was recently “treated” to 100+ mph wind gusts which downed many trees (after upwards of 10-15″ of rainfall) in the hills. This is a spectacular region and I will be sharing quite a bit about it – soon, so, stay tuned!
